Ministry of Education Spokesman Says Students Get more “Grade A” This Year Because of their Hard Work

PHNOM PENH: The results of the Baccalaureate exam were announced on January 14 and 15, 2022, with a total of 72,016 candidates out of a total of 114,187 candidates have passed, equivalent to 65.65% compared to 2019 68.62%. Spokesman of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Mr. Ros Soveacha, has said that the factors that more students get grade A in the exam session on December 27, 2021 is because students study hard and Involvement of stakeholders that motivates the exam to run smoothly and efficiently.

Although this year's Baccalaureate exam has seen a drop in the number of candidates who have passed the exam and the study has been disrupted due to the transition to online learning, more students have passed with grade A than the candidates who took the exam in 2019.

In 2021, there were 1,753 students got grade A, compared to 443 students in 2019.

This case, the spokesman of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Ros Soveacha has shown a good result of the education system in Cambodia, despite the obstacles caused by Covid-19.

He added: "The results of the Baccalaureate show the efforts of candidates before and in the context of Covid-19 under the support of parents, teachers, school management, education staff and all stakeholders with care and high attention to the implementation of exam regulations and health safety measures at all stages of the Baccalaureate exam on December 27-28, 2021."

However, in an interview with RFI, the Minister of Education, Mr. Hang Chuon Naron, stated that the factor that led to the increase in the A score in the exam was because the Ministry had eased the difficulty level in the exam about 20%.

On January 15, 2022, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, expressed his appreciation to all the students who failed the exam and announced to meet with all the students who got grade A to encourage all students who Study hard while the time and place of the meeting will be announced later through the Minister of Education, Mr. Hang Chuon Naron.
